Eat in Greenpoint is Simply Great
[23 Feb 2010 | One Comment | ]

After reading the New York Magazine review of Eat, our interest was piqued enough to trudge 15 minutes through the slush and melting snow on a frigid Thursday night, all the way to Meserole and Leonard in Greenpoint, Brooklyn to give it a try.
Seasonality is at the core of Eat… whatever is available at the local green market is what you’ll be eating.  So it’s difficult to say exactly what will be on the menu.  This poses a big challenge for us (and all wine lovers) because it is also …

The 2010 European Wine Blogger's Conference in Vienna
[21 Feb 2010 | No Comment | ]

The European Wine Blogger’s Conference was officially announced last week.
This year’s edition will be held in Vienna – a perfect city for the event since, as Vinissimus mentions, it is the only capital city in the world with an economically notable wine production. Vienna is a fantastic base for wine touring – and if you go, do not limit yourself to Austria: some fantastic Hungarian wine areas are just a couple of hours away.
Last year’s conference was held in Lisbon and brought together over 120 bloggers, social media innovators and …

Moleskine's New Wine Journals
[20 Feb 2010 | No Comment | ]

If you are like us, you go through an incredible amount of information each day. Sorting it, organizing it and, most importantly, making sure we can summon it at the right moment has become a daily challenge. That’s why we got into blogging to begin with… and a few years later, Twitter.
Once we started properly tasting wine, things became somewhat hectic. Over the years, we made wine tasting notes in way too many notebooks/apps/you name it and to be honest it sometimes feel like we cannot open a random notebook …

Winemakers Penalized for Pinot-Envy
[18 Feb 2010 | No Comment | ]

The verdict is finally out. Twelve French wine merchants and growers have been convicted Wednesday of selling 18 millions of bottles of fake Pinot Noir to E&J Gallo who used them in their american Red Bicyclette line. They used cheaper grapes and sold it at Pinot Noir prices. Gallo trusted them and sold Pinot Noir to its typically unsuspecting customers, who loved it.
This comes at a time when more Americans are drinking wine than ever before and when, post Sideways, Pinot Noir was becoming some kind of status varietal, oh …

Have You Joined the Save the Wine Column Group Yet?
[18 Feb 2010 | No Comment | ]

Does your local newspaper have a dedicated wine columnist? And by dedicated we mean someone who can teach you one thing or two about wine rather than just say that Yellowtail Shiraz is great for read meat?*
While more and more newspapers around the world are feeling intense pressure to downsize, many wine columnists are loosing their jobs.
The latest casualty happened in London and is causing quite a stir in the wine world. Tim Atkin’s weekly column for the Observer newspaper (part of the UK Guardian newspaper group) is to be …

2007 Il Colle Rosso di Montalcino
[17 Feb 2010 | No Comment | ]

Wednesday means wine on Eat Boutique and luckily for us, we’re kind of responsible for that. Rules of the game are that we must, once a week, drink a wine from a small production winery and ideally pair it with a good at home meal. Tough life, isn’t it?
This week, we’re relating our Valentine’s Day evening, which included a massive, locally sourced, 30 ounce rib-eye steak and a Rosso di Montalcino.
The wine has a really stunning color – brick red and very translucent.  The aromas are sort of grassy, which …

A Second Chance to Make a First Impression
[16 Feb 2010 | No Comment | ]
A Second Chance to Make a First Impression

A few weeks ago at a wine tasting, we encountered a Nero d’Avola that – shocking as it may sound – we would describe as LIGHT.  One of our readers confirmed to us that this is pretty atypical of the varietal and this wine will usually take on some brawny muscle and rich fruit.  So we decided to give it another go and see just how different the Neros could be.

The bottle we selected was in the same price range and vintage as the first and, as far as we …

An Alternative Guide to Valentine’s Day Wines

So Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I’m sure plenty of you are planning a nice romantic, homemade, candle lit dinner to celebrate with that special someone. There are plenty of places to go for suggestions on what to purchase, so we thought we’d take a slightly different approach. As a public service, we’ve decided to outline a guide on how to interpret a wine being served to you. That’s right… below is a handy way to decipher exactly where the night is going, what expectations are being …

Volcanic Wine, Pizza and Rock-N-Roll on Eat Boutique
[11 Feb 2010 | One Comment | ]

Yesterday was Wednesday, which means that we had a new wine post live on Eat Boutique. This week, we revisited high-altitude wines with a Mount Etna based winery and ventured in the art of homemade pizza.
Last night’s pairing surprised us more than anything we’ve experienced so far this year. It involved Italian wine, a homemade pizza and a CD we hadn’t heard in years. It all started back in 2005…
Read more on Eat Boutique, right here.
Do you know a great small winery that we should try? Feel free to let …

Lambrusco Tasting – Lini 910 Bianco, Rose and Rosso

Lambrusco Tasting – Lini 910 Bianco, Rose and Rosso

A few weeks into the new year, some people’s fizzle for sparkling wine might have faded… but not ours!  Quite to the contrary, actually.  During a recent trip to the wine shop, we stumbled on a collection of Lini 910‘s portfolio of entry level NV Lambruscos and just couldn’t say no.   The only problem?  Finding a few friends to help us take down 3 bottles of sparkling… luckily Sean and Julie helped us out with that!
Here are our combined notes:

Labrusca Bianco | dry and super-light.  Floral aromas.  Short and simple …
