Best Drinking Corner in Brooklyn (aka Tag Hearts Beer – Part 2)

After having spent a few months exploring the local watering holes of Brooklyn, it’s clear that one tiny area has emerged as the go-to place for getting your drink on.  Tucked into a tiny corner of Greenpoint, the intersection of Greenpoint Ave and Franklin St has slowly emerged as ground zero of the Brooklyn beer revolution.  And with new bars being added seemingly every month or so, things are set to get even better.  Here is a Google Streetview of what we’re talking about:

In no particular order…

Eat Harassed by Department of Health
[5 Mar 2010 | No Comment | ]

In an ironic twist of fate, the NYC Department of Health has decided to harass the cleanest, freshest restaurant we’ve had the pleasure of eating in for years. The reason? Not a large enough refrigerator! Perhaps they missed the recent NY Magazine article and we assume nobody read our recent post about Eat… if they had, they probably would have rightly left the poor chef/owner of this awesome BYOB alone.
But since they didn’t, let’s spell this out for the NY Health Department — if Jordan is going …

Eat in Greenpoint is Simply Great
[23 Feb 2010 | One Comment | ]

After reading the New York Magazine review of Eat, our interest was piqued enough to trudge 15 minutes through the slush and melting snow on a frigid Thursday night, all the way to Meserole and Leonard in Greenpoint, Brooklyn to give it a try.
Seasonality is at the core of Eat… whatever is available at the local green market is what you’ll be eating.  So it’s difficult to say exactly what will be on the menu.  This poses a big challenge for us (and all wine lovers) because it is also …

Greenpoint Coffee House to Close

Part of the excitement of moving into a new neighborhood is the exploration phase… that time where everything is new and finding your path to comfortable living is built brick by brick (aka “bar by bar”, “restaurant by restaurant”).  During this discovery phase, we recently had dinner at Greenpoint Coffee House.  We were so thoroughly impressed, we promptly returned the following night.
Originally, I had hoped to post something about how great the Greenpoint Coffee House was… particularly the deliciously crispy friend chicken with honey dipping sauce and buttermilk biscuit.  But …

Beware, the Habitat's Food can be Habit Forming

Beware, the Habitat's Food can be Habit Forming

If you’ve recently walked along Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint between about 7pm and 10pm on a weeknight, you might have noticed a small, understated place with steamy windows and an inordinate number of people crammed inside.  The place is called The Habitat and as a public service announcement, I’m going to have to warn you  all that this place can be habit forming.
The reason is simple: Pavlov’s dog-style conditioning through awesome daily food specials.  Here’s a high level rundown

Monday – $5 mac & cheese
Tuesday – $0.25 wings
Thursday – $8 burgers

There …
